June 2026: camper-connect.com is online

A year after wandering around Nuremberg, the first version of Camper Connect is live. A Walter board - an ESP32-S3 with an LTE-M modem and GNSS - sits in the camper and reports home over the cellular network, secured with DTLS.
Every check-in delivers the position, cabin temperature and humidity, battery voltage and signal quality. The dashboard shows the latest state of the camper, the blog you are reading runs on the same server, and outputs in the camper can even be switched remotely.
The basics work, but there is still a lot to be done: history graphs for temperature and battery, proper certificate validation on the device, data export, more sensors, and plenty of rough edges to polish.
This blog will follow along as the project grows.
